On 29 October 2010, Mr. Surachai Sae-Dan, gave a public speech to the rally goers at Sri Boonrueang Temple, Dongmakrud, Nonghai, Muang, Udonthani with parts of it offending, defaming or insulting the King and the Queen. This case was also a special case no. 76/54 of DSI. Becuase Mr. Surachai plead guilty, the Court reduced the sentence by half to 2.5 year in prison. In total, compiling with five other lèse-majesté cases, Mr. Surachai would have to serve 12 years 6 months imprisonment.

Defendant Background

Mr. Surachai Danwattananusorn (Sae-Dan) was a member of the Communist Party of Thailand (CPT) who was a former political prisoner on Communist conviction. Mr. Danwattananusorn later became the New Aspiration Party member by the invitation of General Chawalit Yongchaiyut, the party leader himself. Mr. Danwattananusorn also ran for the senate in Nakorn Si Thammarat Province as well as for the house representation under Pheu Thai Party.
