Panmanee and Sombat joined the demonsatration against the coup on 28 May 2014. Panmanee was photographed while spraying on military humvee. Sombat was photographed while he was pressing the valve of the humvee’s tire. They were arrested after the pictures were disseminated through online medias. 

In this case, the two defendants were not only charged of gathering more than 5 people but also charged with obstructing officials and destroying government property. Therefore, they denied the charges and fight the case in the military court.

Defendant Background

Panmanee is a government officer in the Ministry of Education. Upon her arrest she is 42 years old.

Sombat works in catering department at the Grand Hyatt Erawan Hotel.

Allegation

On 28 May 2014, around 5 PM,  a group of protesters gathered near the Victory Monument against the coup. The protesters shouted and threw objects to the soldiers to push them out of the area. It was reported that after the soldiers moved out of the area, the protesters took over army’s trucks, sprayed on the truck and flattened its tire.
 
Panmanee joined a protest against the coup d’etat at the Victory Monument and sprayed on a military’s humvee. There were video clips and photos from witnesses spread in the internet.
 
While a picture of Sombat was disseminated through the online media which showed that he was pressing the valve of the truck’s tire.  

Circumstance of Arrest


There was a warrant of arrest from military court. Panmanee was restrained for accepting her charge on 30 of May 2014 then she was detained at Phayathai police station. The police brought her to a press conference.
 
After the picture of Sombat was disseminated, an online user posted information about his name, the address and the work place. On 2 June 2014, the police brought the warrant of arrest issued by the military court to the Grand Hyatt Erawan Hotel to arrest Sombat but he was not there. Sombat came to the hotel and gave himself in to the police after his colleague told him about the warrant of arrest.  He then was detained at Phayathai police station.

Karom Ponpornklang, a lawyer submitted a reques for bail, the court then allowed her to temporarily released under 40,000 baht guarantee. In addition, the court ordered her to not join the protest, give any political opinions or leave the country.
 

3 June 2014, 

At the Metropolitan Police Bureau, the officers took Sombat to a press conference. In the afternoon, Sombat was sent to the military court to submit the request for the temporary detention. His superior and a colleague brought 40,000 Baht cash for bail with lawyers from the Free Thai Legal Aid (FTLA) submitted the request for bail.
