Summary

14 activists of New Democracy Movement were arrested with an allegation of incitment to cause disturbance in the country under Section 116 of Criminal Code (sedition) due to their symbolic activity at the Democracy Monument on 25 June 2015.

All 14 arrestees were sent to military court at the late night for a provisional detention. They all declared civil disobedience against the legal procedure and not apply for bail. Durinf the first round of detention they were detained in prison and gained a lot of attention and sympathy from the society. This case is also known as '14 students' case. After the 12-day period ended the military court denied to furthur detain them during the investigation and released them with out any condition.

Background of accused

Rangsiman Rome, a 4th year student at faculty of law in Thammasat University and a member of League of Liberal Thammasat for Democracy (LLTD).

Wason Settasit, a 5th year student at faculty of law in Khon Kaen University. He is a member of 'Daodin' group. He was working with villagers in Loie province to oppose the mining project.

Songtham Kaewpanpruek, 24 years old, former student of Ratchamongkol Suvarnabhumi University and a member of Thai Student Center for Democracy (TSCD).

Payu Boonsophon, a 2nd year student at faculty of law in Khon Kaen University. He is a member of 'Daodin' group. He was working with villagers in Loie province to oppose the mining project.

Apiwat Soonthrarak a 2nd year faculty of engineer in Khon Kaen University. He is a member of 'Daodin' group. He was working with villagers in Kalasin province to oppose the petroleum project.

Ratthapon Suppasopon, a 4th year student at faculty of economic in Thammasat University and a member of League of Liberal Thammasat for Democracy (LLTD).

Supachai Phooklongploy, a 2nd year student at faculty of law in Khon Kaen University. He is a member of 'Daodin' group. He was working with villagers who got environmental effect in Nampong Distrrict, Khon Kaen Province and villagers in Loie province to oppose the mining project.

Abhisit Sapnapapan, a former student of Kasetsart University and a member of Serinonsi Kasetsart, he protested against autonomous university and the construction of “Mae Wong” dam. He also called for responsibility of the government on disappearance of Billy, a tribal activist for Human Rights.

Panuphong Srithananuwat, a 2nd year student at faculty of law in Khon Kaen University. He is a member of 'Daodin' group. He was working with villagers in Kalasin province to oppose the petroleum project.

Suwicha Pitangkorn, a 4th year student at faculty of law in Khon Kaen University. He is a member of 'Daodin' group. He was a legal advisor for Dongmoon conservation group, villagers in Kalasin province.

Pakorn Areekul is an ex student of Burabha University, he protested against autonomous university and Amnesty Bill.

Jatupat Boonpatararaksa, a 5th year student at faculty of law in Khon Kaen University. He is a coordinator of 'Daodin' group. He was working with villagers who has land conflict in Kornsarn district, Chaiyaphoom Province.

Chonthicha Jaengrew, a 4th year student at faculty of social science in Srinakarinwirot University and a member of Thai Student Center for Democracy (TSCD).
